We are advising BC Partners in the acquisition of PET CITY SA, the leading Greek pet retailer, through BC Partners GR Investment, a special purpose fund aimed at investing in and supporting high-growth small and medium-sized companies in Greece.
The deal marks the first such acquisition for the fund and the latest acquisition of BC Partners in the pet sector, following the acquisition of US group PetSmart in 2015 and Chewy in 2017. BC Partners also owns VetPartners, the UK’s largest operator of vet clinics. Founded in 1988, Pet City has grown as a family-owned business to serving around 3 million customers in Greece. The founding family will retain a minority share in the company. The transaction is subject to the receipt of the relevant regulatory clearances.
